My name is Rebecca, aka Tatmom or Tatmom03. Tatting, for those of you who visited this site looking for tattoo information, actually involves lace making with either a needle and thread or shuttle and thread. It’s less permanent than inked body art, generally more delicate, and definitely less common.
I’ve been tatting since 1999, thanks to the efforts of the world’s pushiest salesclerk. My preferred method of tatting is needle tatting… I can use the shuttle for very basic tatting, but it’s too slow and frustrating for me.
I work full time from home, run my own web development company, homeschool my 7 year old son (aka The Boy), spend time with my wonderful husband (we’re on year 14 of a lifelong marriage <3 ) and do rather a lot of knitting. Unfortunately, since no one will grant me more hours in my day, this means that tatting gets shoved aside more often than I’d like.
I’ve taught a few classes on needle tatting in the last several years, and hope to teach more at some point. Tatting is a skill that, while clearly not *lost*, is certainly out of the mainstream. I’d love to see more people learning it!
Every now and then, I get inspired and make and sell tatted jewelry on etsy. I’m lacking the time to make it a viable business, but keep an eye on the store anyway…you never know!
